Muneesh Sappel is an Indian Production Designer, Art Director & Costume Designer.

Some of his Renowned Feature Films are Gadar-2, Bhoothnath,
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Pinjar, Paheli, Sharp's Peril and Sick House.

He has won several awards for Best Production Design, Art Direction and Costume Design.

British Series "Sharpe's Won BAFTA Awards for Best Drama Series.

Sharpe's Challenge and Sharpe's Peril were broadcast in the US
in 2010as part of PBS'S Masterpiece Classic season.

Paheli was India's Official Entry to the 2006 Oscars.

He has been Honoured by Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards 
for Remarkable Contribution in the field of the Theatre Art Direction in 2008.

He has been Honoured by Uttar Pradesh Awadh Asmita Samman 2019,
Remarkable Contribution in the field of Cinema Art Direction .

Early Life


Muneesh Sappel was born and brought up in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh),INDIA.
He has received Graduation Degree from College of Arts and Crafts, 
Lucknow University with Specialisation in Photography.

He is also a Diploma holder in Dramatic Arts
from Bhartendu Academy of Dramatic Arts, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) 
in Scenic Design, Direction and Acting. Sappel was the Topper of the batch.

He also received fellowship of Drama school and Repertory at Lucknow
to work on Shakespearean Theatre in 1990 
with eminent director Padmashree Raj Bisaria. 

Career

 Sappel started his career in 1982 
with a renowned amateur theatre group Meghdoot Lucknow as an Actor &Designer.
Played important roles, designed the sets, properties and costumes in various renowned plays.

He has worked with Indian Theatre Personalities like Padmashree Raj Bisaria,
Suryamohan Kulshreshtha, Atamjeet Singh, Urmil Kumar Thapaliyal, 
Badal Sarkar, Probir Guha, Shamanand Jalan, V. Ramamurthy, 
Gobardhan Panchal, B. Jayshree, Manohar Singh, B. V. Karanth, 
Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Habib Tanveer.

He has also worked with International Theatre Personalities like
Franz Havemann(German Designer), P. Edstrum (Modern Western Theatre Architect) , 
Ledea Konidrew and Boro Draskovic (Greek and Russian Theatre Personalities).

Sappel has Adapted and Directed Plays like Aenemy,  
The Bear(Anton Chekhov), The Dice (Frobes Bramble), 
First And Last (J. Galsworthy), The Knot  (Athol Fugard).


Aawaaz, Dhokha Ho Gaya, Ab Hum Kya Karein
 are some of Sappel's Original WorkFor Children.

He has also conducted several Children Theatre Workshops
in Lucknow, Kanpur and Varanasi.
  
He has designed Photo Features on various subjects for Lucknow Doordarshan
which included Scripting, Shooting and Editing.


Sappel has worked as a Freelance Photographer for Hindustan Times, 
Nothern Indian Patrika and Amrit Prabhat Newspapers in Lucknow.

He has been one of the Painters in The Group Painting & Illustration Exhibition 
held in 1985-1987 at Lucknow, Kanpur, Bombay, New Delhi, Goa and Chandigarh.

Sappel's first Solo Exhibition of Line Drawings (Pen and Ink) 
was held in 1988 in various cities.

He presented his first Solo Photography Exhibit 
in an Uttar Pradesh Festival held at Goa in the year 1989.

The first Film Project he took up as an Associate Art Director and
an actor was Sudhir Mishra's Debut Film Ye Vo Manzil Toh Nahi in 1986.
The film went on to win the 34th National Film Award.

1990 Sappel came to Bombay for Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi's mega historical 
TV series Chanakya-the story of the first Mauryan Emperor.

Chanakya went on to win many awards in different categories.

He did a string of TV Series like Abhay Charan 
(Biography Drama based on the life of Srila  Prabhupada - Founder of ISKON).

Shivaji Sawant's  Mrityunjay 
(Epic set in the 1500 BC which tells the life story of Mahabharat's Karn).

After doing films like Shaheed Udham Singh and Jaanwar, 
Sappel's mega break came with Pinjar and Paheli, 
both films went on to win several awards and worldwide recognition.

He got International Cinema exposure with Sharpe's Peril
and The Sick House, Sharpe's Challenge and Irah.

His career includes various classic Ad Films 
for Pepsi with Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Rahul Dravid.
Sunfeast Biscuits with Shah Rukh Khan and Dominoes Pizza with Paresh Rawal.

His International Ad Films includes Colorama colour film negative, 
Gulab Basmati Rice and an Ad for Readymade Food & Spices for England.
Bahaar washing powder for Muscat Oman.

Sappel has worked an an Art Director and Costume Designer
for more than 50 Music  Videos for various companies.

He has worked with Sidhharth Kak Films 
for Madhya Pradesh Tourism (Documentaries),
Stories for the Famous TV series Surbhi.

He has also worked for Arun Khopkar's promotional film series
for various government departments.

Sappel has been a Guest Lecturer and Designer
for Film and Television Institute of India (FTII),
National School of Drama (NSD) Delhi,
Bhartendu Natya Academy (BNA) Lucknow
and Faculty of Drama; Mumbai University.

He has worked with famous Indian directors 
Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi,  Aditya Chopra,
Rajkumar Santoshi, Amol Palekar,
Sudhir Mishra, Kunal Kohli 
and International Directors Curtis Radclyffe and Tom Clegg. 

Sappel has also worked for as an Art Director for a Theme Park
based on Mughal Era (reigning from Akbar to Shah Jahan) 
organised by Forheritage Pvt. Ltd (Delhi)
and 
A Theme Park based on Indian Heritage 
for Shreepal Morakhia's company Mumbai.

He has designed and Erected Proscenium Theatre Auditorium 
for Yuva Shakti Modern School, Rohini, New Delhi.

Sappel has also Designed and Erected Mega Set 
for the Historical Occasion of 50 yrs of Independence Celebration at Rajpath, 
Vijay Chowk, New Delhi for the Ministry of Culture(Govt of Bharat)
